Inverell Artisans for New England Home & Lifestyle Magazine

When I found out I was photographing three Inverell artisans for the Autumn 2016 edition of the New England Home & Lifestyle magazine, I have to say I was super excited. Having a strong appreciation for handmade products, this was one of my ideal jobs.

The Jeweller, Baker and Candlestick-Maker. Casey Lea from Pop Design uses clay as a creative medium to sculpt her simple, but striking jewellery and key rings. Chris Wellard from Wellard's Artisan Bakehouse uses the slow bread making process for his delicious sourdough bread and products. And Bec Devlin from Fig + Elm creates amazing fragrant soy candles.

The love and attention these artisans apply to their craftsmanship is evident in their products. All being sold locally, you can find Wellard's Artisan Bakehouse products at Funki Munki and both Pop Design and Fig + Elm products at me & mr jones.

The Magic Book, perfume and heels

Another mix of still life projects I made over the last month. The Magic Book was a concept developed to show air, hence the magic dust! The perfume image was a study on lighting glass and liquid, and shooting the bottle straight on. And the heels (red, of course) were a challenge in showing the texture of the suede and the shape of the shoe.

me & mr. jones - for individuality

One of my most favourite shops is me & mr. jones, a store with a perfect mix of beautiful products based on individuality. To quote directly from their Facebook page:

me & mr.jones is a celebration of all things beautiful, delectable and different. We pride ourselves on individuality, the stories behind our products, exceptional service and good fun.

The well selected range of gorgeous products is extremely diverse, including handmade ceramics, sheets, clothes, shoes, hats, toys, jewellery, handbags, soaps, sustainable timber kitchenware, and the list goes on. Local products line the shelves from skin care and first aid products, to olive oils, teas and coffee. Original artwork from local artists also feature on the walls. The stories behind the products make a visit to this store a more richer experience with the many artisan products made with ethical, fair-trade and environmental considerations.

On my last visit, Kate asked if I needed any assistance. My response was basically, 'I'll have one of everything!". Call in and see Kate, Jane and David at me & mr. jones, a true gem in the Sapphire City of Inverell!
